What a Guy Wants

I've had a request from some of my college girls regarding our college guys -

"We want to know what they think about regarding the future? What is it they are looking for in a wife? How do they process conflict, anger, or decide if they're in love? or even want to be? What do they fear? etc. ... So can we have a forum type setting with a couple of you adults as "moderators" and just have a round-table discussion where we can ask each other questions that we are curious about (with discretion of course)?

Well, honestly, my first thought was this is a sure way to get a guy to renounce his faith and leave the church just so he wont qualify to be invited to this "forum". My other thought was how many times I have heard young women want to know these very things and try to figure out an effective way to get the answers. Here's how it often goes:

"What are you feeling?" reply: "...about what?"

"Why won't you talk?" "...talk about what?"

"What do feel passionate about?" "...duck season opens this saturday."

"Can't you answer a serious question?" "...can you talk to me without asking one?"

And so the cycle begins. I LOVE IT ALL!! I love that girls want to know the heart of guys and are continuously trying to figure out how to get the answers. You've read "Wild at Heart", "He's Not that Into You", "Men are from Mars...", "How to Kill a Deer With Your Bare Hands"....
I love that guys have answers to all of our questions, they just don't want to tell them to just anybody on command. But when we do hear the answer, we remember it forever.

So if there is a question you want to ask - or answer you would like to give - I would sure love to hear it. The College Ministry @ Calvary Baptist Church will be a better, wiser place because of your input I have no doubt.

Otherwise, I'm thinking of a way to get the guys at a discussion table... ready to answer questions...that girls want to ask. AND they are hoping the guys have some questions too, because YOU KNOW the girls have been ready to answer questions since they were 12! I'm thinking....

What: Fun Discussion with Girls and Guys
When: 6:30 AM
Where: 3rd duck blind on the lake, next to the All You Can Eat Steakhouse

Here's to the life and love of those precious Men and Women that have come into my life like confetti in a ticker-tape parade - falling all around me in various shapes, sizes and colors, always fun and exciting, then they land and make this beautiful tapestry path that I will forever look back on and smile.

Mrs. Kathy - how resfreshing to hear that those college students are where we were so MANY years ago...and how exciting it is to know you are still right there in the midst - loving them through those seemingly impossible times! thanks for all you do!

...and if the girls are serious about answers, I think the third duck blind is the ONLY place they'll get the guys' honest answers - and tell them there are some things that never change!!!

someone just gave me book for my birthday called "for women only: what you need to know about the inner lives of men" by shaunti feldhahn. it is a really easy read & she did a lot of research to come up with 7 things we need to understand about men. obviously not every man fits every revelation, but it is very revealing. a good read whether your married or single.

soo excited that you have a blog now! we can get our mrs. kathy fix anytime we need! now for the question. probably not the expert on this as i am still single. but i agree with the girl who said to be yourself and be who God made you to be. if you change for any reason other than God's conviction and His Spirit working in your life, it's just not gonna last. so become what God wants and that will be exactly what the guy he has for you wants. and it really doesn't matter what any other guy wants.

There's been some good thoughts so far. I'll just throw in some of my own. When I was a little kid, we always played games where we saved the day. We would be spies and our girlfriends were kidnapped and we'd have to break in and rescue them and of course we'd get there just in the nick of time. And this was long before I started watching this thing on TV. So the point is most guys want to know that they've got what it takes, that someone believes in them and in their crazy ideas. Deep down, most of us want to be the hero, we want to come through when needed and we want to have the courage to fight for whats important. Hopefully that translates into the spiritual life and hopefully we find somebody who'll encourage, respect, and believe in us. If so, thats huge, it means the world. Thats my thoughts on what most guys want deep down. Someone to go on their adventure with, but first someone to believe that this guy can take them on an adventure.
Thanks for the post Mrs. Kathy. I miss you.
