Some Things Never Change...

...like College Ministry - oh, the hip words change, the fashion changes (or recycles), haircuts and cars change, terms for relationships : "We're just hangin' out", "They're kind of talking", "They're going out", "They're dating", "It's official".

HOWEVER...the greater things in College Ministry have not changed - students who leave high school, where trying to stand for Christ was so uncool, and come to college only to discover this mass of people who come along side of them and worship and desire to serve the Lord and do the things that please Him. Where going to church is not a mandate, but a joy. Where parties and events are all remembered the next day and there are no regrets. Funny things are really funny and not vulgar or inappropriate (except maybe an attempt to set flatulence on fire ended up with serious injury). All that said, I wanted you all to see what a fun year I have had, just as in years past, with these precious friends I call "my students"...

"ROAD TRIP"- BCM/BSU brings students around to each church participating in a progessive dinner -
we were "HAWAII"

"CAMP SCHROEDER" - can you say TORNADO! yes, this was the night before RITA , but it was soooooo fun. 4-wheelers pulled us down our homemade "MEGA SLIDE" only to end up in the mud pit. It was truly a blast - I went down the slide in long shorts, got off the slide in "thong" shorts. LOL

"CAPTIVATING" - oh yes! While the guys were sequestered away on their "WILD AT HEART" retreat, we were living out the 3 things a woman longs for (according to this book, anyway) at our retreat at the wonderful Camp Harris:
1. To be romanced
2. To play an irreplaceable role in a great adventure
3. To be the beauty of the story
The evening started off in semi-formal attire and a wonderful steak dinner with candlelights, roses for each girl & stemware w/roses etched into it....who, you might ask, was the "romancer"? -
Jesus, my friends, the sweetest pursuer we will ever know.

MISSION LAKE CHARLES - oh yes, the blue tarps are real. I saw them. It was a most sobering sight. Our groups divided up and cleared up about 14 or 15 projects. They worked like there was no tomorrow....my group went to a widow's house that was rendered "totalled". It took my breath away to watch her smile and offer us water and hospitality. But, we also found fun and humor in working hard as well.

SUPER-BOWL MEGA TAILGATE PARTY - ok -
8'x12' super screen; a modified, lined & lighted football field, free concession stand and tons of door prizes. Wish everyone could have been here!!
(Yes, that is my house that the screen is towering over!)

I'm so glad some things never change...

Mrs. Kathy, I'm so glad to see that some things never change (especially YOU!), but I am really jealous that I'm not one of those students enjoying the mud and concessions and mission trips.

Thank you for all that you have done and will do for college students!!

Hey Mrs. Kathy! Miss seeing your smiling face when I happen to be in town on Sundays. But so thankful that you are a woman of obedience and that God has led you to a place of vivrant ministry!!! You have such an amazing passion for people, an amazing way to get into the intimate areas of peoples' hearts in such a way that they feel comfortable around you! I can only imagine what that glorious day will look like for you - when you meet Jesus face to face and then, you are flooded with men and women who walk up to you and say, "Thank you for giving to the Lord. I am a life that was changed!" Love you!!! KIM
