How I Know It's Easter

Well - I'm sure you all will be expecting a profoundly spiritual answer - and those I can come up with at a moment's notice. But would they be truly honest? Because I know you expect only honesty and integrity in my answers to questions, I am going to tell you something a lot of people, even close to me, do not even know...

How Do I Know It's Easter? Well, it could be because most of my flower pots are full and blooming...because they are.

But that's not how I know it's Easter.

Of course it could be the azaleas are blooming and vibrant all over the yard... because they are.

But that's not how I know it's Easter, either.

How, then, do I know??!! BRACH's Malted Milk Eggs.

I must confess.

Other than calling from Denver, CO to Tampa, FL looking for a Princess Di Beanie Baby for my daughter many years ago, THIS is the only item I have ever searched for by calling the manufacturer's home office. They could not be found anywhere near my quaint hometown. Guess where the nearest distributor of this fine confection was???? BATON ROUGE. Can you believe? In my pitiful sounding voice I asked if there was anyway I could just order straight from them - I was even willing to buy cases if that's what it took (am I not sounding like a moron at this point?!). They told me no, but that I could ask my local retailer, or start a petition since I sounded so passionate about them, and maybe they would begin to "stock the Brach" eggs.

SO, I did find another friend that knew the superiority of the Brach's eggs over all others and we both agreed to call Wal-Mart & ask them to please consider carrying them in the future.

Not that my phone call had anything to do with it, but last year was the first year we could find these wonderful malted eggs in our hometown - I bought 6 bags. The cashier asked me if I was having a party. SO this year I went early to get the first bags off the shelf.....THEY WERE ALL GONE!! YES! ALL OF THE CASES WERE TOTALLY EMPTY. I searched behind the other crummy kind to see if anyone was hiding them like I might have done, but I could not find any.

I shared this sad story with Meg, Stacy, Coreen and Sandy -

Then today! - a little package arrived in the mail from my dear friend Stacy Colvin - who remembered this testimony of disappointment. She thought of me when she saw some in her store! I have never had the "pastel" ones, so I was so excited to try these and they are wonderful indeed - a fluffy crunch everytime.

Yes, my tongue is raw already and has a slight yellow tint from all of the dye that I have now eaten. But having to sit here with my tongue hanging out of my mouth because it is so chapped and chocolate malt all up in my teeth is still worth every single one of those little candies that I have popped in my mouth in the last 15 minutes.

Yep, - that is how I know it's Easter!

how funny! i do love the malted milk eggs but my journey to the ends of the earth was over diet a&w creme soda. apparently, the only state close to me that sells it, is texas (i saw it while vacationing in seattle and was tempted to ship it home). so when my parents come to visit, they stop and buy cases of it for me.

so i'm quite a fan of the malted milk eggs but i've always gotten my easter sugar high off the robin eggs "from the makers of whoppers". these brach eggs you speak of...will they put my robin eggs to shame???

Yes, Stacy, I do believe they will. I have had the "whoppers" on many occasions due to the lack of availability of Brach's - and they are good, but you must try Brach's and then decide.

i must confess my similar addiction...it's not brach's, but the reese's peanut butter easter eggs. fortunately, i have no trouble finding them.

one of my friends once told me they looked like deer feet. i'm not sure what that means...but as far as i'm concerned, nothing is better than the peanut butter-chocolate combination you get in those.

My addiction (and Deborah's as well) are the Valentine Spree hearts. Alas, they have stopped making them and I have not had them for 2 years now. How sad. :(

You can actually buy your favorite candies online! Just go to www.hometowncandy.com and follow the links for the brand, and then type of candy... http://www.hometowncandy.com/brachs-easter-malted-milk-eggs.htm
This website should take you to your malted milk eggs!

I, on the other hand, know it's Easter when the Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs come out... my mouth is watering just thinking about it!

I have to walk out of my way in the grocery store to avoid eating a dozen of the Reese's PB eggs right there in the store!!! I have only let myself buy and eat one so far this Easter season!

Yes...I'm pretty sweet and thoughtful, Shandra! No really, I just happened to be brousing the Easter candy isle at one of my favorite French establishments, Target, and immediately thought of Mrs. Kathy when I saw them. I knew she would absolutely love to have them! I never dreamed she would devote a whole blog to her love. But I'm so glad I could minister to Mrs. Kathy in that way and get a "thank you" on her blog!

Yes, Stacy Colvin, this whole blog of love is dedicated to you- The meeter-of-my-needs. I will call you and thank you more properly! It's really just enough to even know I was thought about!! :)

I'm a reese's PB egg girl myself. Thank you mrs. k for allowing those of us, who also distinguish the holidays via holiday candy, to have a voice. For years it has been one those terrible "secrets", but not anymore. The truth shall set you free, I am free at last. Mrs. K you rock!

So I checked WalMart...and NO eggs! I'll keep an eye out tho. It never fails....when you want something you can't find it and when you don't want something you can easily find it! Did you find them on that website Tracy gave you?

Wow! You have a green thumb. I can't keep anything alive outside. We need some major landscaping done to our yard. Hannah asked why don't we have any butterflies in our yard..I told her that we would need flowers to attract them. So we planted some, maybe she can help me keep them alive for more than a week.

I'll have to say, I'm a whopper egg fan. I might have to try the Brach's brand, I saw them at Target.

Deborah - good luck with the butterflies! My girls loved seeing them, too. Bird feeders were also fun - even though our squirrels ate all of the feeders.
