My Name is Kathy and I am a People Watcher

While waiting for some friends at the airport I had time to observe people. It really is one of my favorite things to do. I am a potential stalker maybe, but what I really love is fabricating stories in my mind about why they are flying, what the relationship is with the person they are with, and generally what their life is like. I do not profess to be a psychic, just a girl, standing here asking myself what does their life entail?

Arrival for flights:
Why are they late
What do they have that is making the metal detector go off?
Where is the wand test going to buzz on their body? What's in there?
Are they going to take their shoes off and dump everything in the little box or wait to be asked?
Why do you have that little bitty suitcase?
How did you come up with that outfit?

The Waiting:
Do you think I can't hear what you're talking about?
Is he going to sit right by the person, or skip a chair, maybe skip a section!?
Why are you reading that?
Please stop looking at me directly, there are "space" rules.
Oh no, they are coming over here by me!

The good-byes:
Why didn't you kiss her?
What kind of hug was that? Such a courtesy hug!
A pat on the shoulder? Whatever - must be business partners,
The look back and wave...oh he loves her!

The Welcome Home:
Kiss?
Excited or be cool?
Side hug
Full-frontal hug?
Rush to welcome?
Stand back and let them come to you welcome?

I love watching it! What a mother-lode of interpesonal study!

* When returning my friends to the airport I did have a VERY SPECIAL treat of seeing Hank and Melanie Jones and Melanie's parents! I loved getting to catch up a little bit. Those were some good-memory days!

Random thing - Someone please tell me how they do this???

p.s. i am such a people watcher too. i'm pretty sure that their stories are much more interesting in my mind than they are in real life. ken and lou did a good job of helping to develop my imagination when they made me grow up in a small town like gilbert. i'm just saying...

I think it must have something to do with your EYES! I looked at one emblem, but my number was another! And it showed me the symbol I was looking at! Could it detect your eye focus?

Every possible answer to the mind-game thing will be a multiple of 9 (when you look at the symbols, they are identical for 9, 18, 27, 36, etc.). Sorry to burst the bubble on that one!

Great observation...now, how does it know which multiple you picked?

You would of gotten a kick out of watching us at the airport! What kind of family brings that much stuff and why are they dragging their kids out this early in the morning? I know exactly what everyone was thinking when they saw us coming...hope they aren't on my flight!

I love to people watch..it is a talent..you can't let them know that they are being watched. It does take practice.

Luis and I would have made good subjects for your watching also. We hit the airport just hours after our wedding reception was over so I didn't make it through the metal detector due to the 62 bobby pins still in my hair! Sadly, the first person to give me a "pat down", was not my new husband but rather the scary lady with the wand! :) Then we were late for our connecting flight and were the crazy couple running through the airport yelling, "excuse me! watch out! coming through!".

Surely you didn't have to take out all those bobby pins!? They KNOW a bride needs her "updo!"

Ohhhhh, I must admit I am a people watcher too! So many times I have gone to the airport here in Istanbul to wait on volunteers coming in and just spent the entire time thinking "Do you realize your in public?" Haha! I even sometimes can't help myself and go and talk to someone, when I see the "foreigner" walking through the airport with that glazed look in their eye like "What do I do now?" I can relate so well Mrs. Kathy. It is the perfect way to pass some time.
